Waco - Temple – Killeen – Lake Waco – Belton Lake Boating Accident Attorney

Texas is rich in natural resources and has large amounts of ocean shoreline and many square miles of inland water where Texans and visitors can boat and fish. But with those resources, and those who use them, inevitably come boating accidents. The most common boating accidents are slip and falls on the boat, collisions with other watercrafts, sinking, and boat disappearances. Some of the most common reasons these injuries usually occur are because of a reckless or careless operator, a boat malfunction, or an inexperienced operator. Texas Parks & Wildlife recommends that you follow the 4 Principles of Safe Boating:

Wearing life jackets save lives
Boater Education saves lives
Safe Boats save lives
Sober boating saves lives

In a “perfect world” everyone would follow these guidelines and there would be no accidents. Unfortunately this “perfect world” does not exist and boating accidents do occur. In recent years, the prevalence of boats on Texas waterways has drastically increased. While the number of boating fatalities has been decreasing over recent years, hundreds of people still are injured or killed in recreational boating accidents. It is important that you talk to an experienced boating accident lawyer to handle your serious injury cases. The Attorneys at O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath are ready to assist you if you've been injured on a boat and the injury was caused by someone else's negligence. There is no fee unless we win your case so you do not need to pay us up front.

Reasons for Boating Accidents

Read the following news release from Texas Parks and Wildlife:

Shallow water isn’t for speeding — A McLennan County game warden and a Coryell County game warden were called to investigate a boating accident on Lake Waco March 2, 2007. Two men were operating their bass boat at a high rate of speed in a shallow, stumpy part of the lake. Inevitably, they struck a log and the boat overturned. One passenger was ejected from the boat, but both occupants escaped without any serious injuries.

This is one of many reasons why boating accidents occur. There are numerous causes of boating accidents, but a great many of them are preventable. The majority are caused by operator inexperience or inattention. Another serious cause of boating accidents is due to the consumption of alcohol while operating a boat. This accounts for nearly one-third of all recreational boating fatalities, and is, in fact, the number one cause of boating accident deaths.
