PPH Lifestyle Changes

If you are suffering from dizziness, chest pains, skin turning blue, or difficulty breathing, you may have persistent pulmonary hypertension – a difficult disease to diagnose.  The best step you can take is to contact your medical provider for further testing.

Adhering to a good diet can help you with your PPH.  Limiting how much saturated and trans fats you eat is the most important step you can take to reduce your blood cholesterol and lower your risk of coronary artery disease.  Choose low-fat protein sources, such as chicken or fish.  Eat more fruits and vegetables, and try to incorporate whole grains.  Finally, try to reduce your sodium intake and control your portion size.

Though strenuous exercise should be avoided, light exercise can be healthy for your heart and lungs.  Try low-impact exercise for short periods of time, such as swimming, walking, Pilates, or yoga.  If you feel your heart rate increasing, or experience any shortness of breath, take a long break.
