Texas 18 Wheeler Accidents

Trucking accidents encompass various types of commercial trucks.  Eighteen-wheelers, semi trucks, and flatbed trucks fall within the commercial trucking category.  In addition, there are four other subcategories of commercial trucks:

  1. Truck tractors carry large, oversized objects such as manufactured homes or large machinery.

  2. Road tractors haul multiple automobiles, trucks, and equipment.

  3. Tow trucks carry individual cars and trucks.

  4. Special trucks transporting hazardous cargo.

Trucking accidents can be deadly.  Most commercial trucks weigh tons, and can wreak incredible damage to small vehicles sharing the roadway.  Most trucking accidents are caused by driver negligence or poorly maintained vehicles.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, large trucks injured 23,000 people in 2008.1 In addition, more than 4.000 people were killed in large truck collisions.
