Cold Therapy Devices

Cold therapy devices are typically prescribed by doctors after certain surgical procedures to minimize pain and swelling and encourage mobility. A cold therapy device is used by placing the pad on the affected area and filling the ice chest with ice and water, allowing the pump to circulate cold water through the tubes and into the cooling pad. The motorized unit will continuously circulate cold water through its pad to cool the area. The motorized device ensures a continually cold temperature in the pad for extended periods of time.

Cold Therapy Manufacturers

Three main companies manufacture cold therapy products:

• Donjoy Iceman ®
  The Donjoy Iceman ® is an 8-quart ice chest with a semi-closed loop system to ensure constant cold temperatures. It is compatible with a variety of different wrap-on pads to treat various areas.
• Breg Polar Care 500 ®
  The Breg Polar Care 500 ® is an 11-quart cooler which can provide up to 11 hours of continuously flowing cold water at temperatures. The control gauge maintains consistent icy temperatures.
• EBIce Cold Therapy System ®
  The EBIce ® Cold Therapy System has adjustable controls for water temperature, as well as a massage function. Pads are contoured to fit the treatment site.
